Addition and Subtraction of Models of Measurement

[ad_1]

We’ll be taught Addition and Subtraction of Models of Measurement.

Addition and subtraction of metric measures may be carried out as we add and
subtract strange numbers considering the place worth of every
metric measurement.

We will add the items of measurement like decimal numbers.

I. Addition of Models of Measurement:

Addition of measurements is rather like every other addition.

Observe the next examples:

(i) Addition of  Size:

1. Add 5 m 9 dm and 11 m and 5 dm

Resolution:

5 m 9 dm = 5.9 m

11 m 5 dm = 11.5 m

Addition of Length

Therefore, 5 m 9 dm + 11 m 5 dm

        = 17 m 4 dm or 17.4 m

2. Add 15 cm 5 mm and 21 cm 9 mm

Resolution:

15 cm 5 mm = 15.5 cm

21 cm 9 mm = 21.9 cm

Addition Length

Therefore, 15 cm 5 mm + 21 cm 9 mm

        = 37 cm 4 mm or 37.4 cm

3. Add 67 km 250 m and 84 km 720 m

Resolution:

67 km 250 m = 67.250 km

84 km 720 m = 84.720 km

Length Addition

Therefore, 67 km 250 m + 84 km 720 m

       = 151 km 970 m or 151.97 km

We will add lengths like strange numbers.

3. Add 24 km 250 m and 140 km 18 m

Resolution:

24 km 250 m = 24.250 km

140 km 18 m = 140.018 km

Addition of Lengths

Therefore, 24 km 250 m + 140 km 18 m

       = 164 km 268 m or 164.268 km

Extra issues on Addition of Models of Size

4. Add 65 km 146 m and 29 km 950 m.

Resolution:

Write in column kind and add

Add the meters

146 + 950 = 1096 m

1096 m = 1 km + 96 m

Write 96 beneath the meter column and carry over 1 km to km column.

Add kilometres 65 + 29 + 1 (carry over) = 95 km

Addition of Units of Length

Therefore, 65 km 146 m + 29 km 950 m = 95 km 96 m

Addition of Metric Measurements:

5. Add 17 km 540 m; 12 km 800 m; 154 km 325 m

Resolution:

Step I: Add metres

540 + 800 + 325 = 1665 m

= 1 km + 665 m

Step II: Write 665 beneath metres and carry 1 to km

Step III: Add kilometres

1 + 17 + 12 + 15 = 45 km

Step IV: Write 45 beneath kilometres.

Metric Addition

Subsequently, the sum is 45 km 665 m.

6. Add 13 metre 42 centimetre and 5 metre 26 centimetre.

Step I: Add centimetres

42 + 26 = 68 cm

Step II: Write 68 beneath centimetres

Step III: Add metres

13 + 5 = 18 m

Step IV: Write 18 beneath metres.

Addition of Length

Subsequently, the sum is eighteen metre 68 centimetre or, 18 m 68 cm.

(ii) Addition of Mass:

1. Add 21 kilogram 150 gram and 9 kilogram 325 gram.

Step I: Add grams

150 + 325 = 475 g

Step II: Write 475 beneath grams

Step III: Add kilograms

21 + 9 = 30 kg

Step IV: Write 30 beneath kilograms.

Addition of Mass

Subsequently, the sum is 30 kilogram 475 gram or, 30 kg 475 g

(iii) Addition of Capability:

1. Add 8 litre 420 millilitre and 34 litre 175 millilitre.

Step I: Add millilitres

420 + 175 = 595 mℓ

Step II: Write 595 beneath millilitres

Step III: Add litres

8 + 34 = 42 ℓ

Step IV: Write 42 beneath litres.

Addition of Capacity

Subsequently, the sum is 42 litres 595 millilitre or, 42 ℓ 475 mℓ.

II. Subtraction of Models of measurement:

We will subtract the items of measurement like decimal numbers.

Subtraction of measurements is rather like every other subtraction.

Observe the next examples:

1. Subtract 28 dg 7 mg from 90 dg

Resolution:

28 dg 7 mg = 28.07 dg

90 dg = 90.00 dg

Subtraction Mass

Therefore, 90.00 dg – 28.07 dg

       = 61 dg 93 mg or 61.93 dg

2. Subtract 185 l 560 ml and 200 l 120 ml

Resolution:

185 l 560 ml = 185.560 l

200 l 120 ml = 200.120 l

Subtraction of Volumes

Therefore, 200 l 120 ml – 185 l 560 ml

       = 14 l 660 ml or 14.660 l

3. Subtract 25 km 340 m from 61 km 180 m

Resolution:

Write in column kind and subtract.

As we can not subtract 340 m from 180 m, we borrow 1 km from
61 km. So 61 km turns into 60 km and 180 m turns into 1 km = 1000 m + 180 m = 1180 m.

Now, subtract 340 km from 1180 m.

1180 – 340 = 840

Subtraction of Units of Length

Subtract km 60 – 25 = 35

Subtraction of Metric Measurements:

4. Subtract 27 kg 100 g – 15 kg 400 g

Resolution:

Step I: 400 g can’t be subtracted from 100 g.

Step II: Borrow 1 kg from 27 kg

1 kg = 1000 g. 1000 g + 100 g = 1100 g

Step III: Subtract grams

1100 – 400 = 700 g

Step IV: Write 700 beneath grams.

Step V: Now 27 – 1 = 26 stays beneath kg.

Step VI: Subtract kilograms.

26 – 15 = 11 kg

Step VII: Write 11 beneath kilograms.

Metric Add

Subsequently, the distinction is 11 kg 700 g.

5. The peak of constructing X is 6314 cm and that of constructing Y is 229 cm much less. What’s the top of constructing Y?

Resolution:

The peak of constructing X = 6314 cm = 63.14 m

The peak of constructing Y is 229 cm lower than constructing X.

Subsequently, the peak of constructing Y = 63.14 m – 2.29 m

Therefore, the peak of constructing Y = 60.85 m
