Hanna Noughani, who graduated in Might 2023 from the College of Wisconsin–Madison with a double-major in neurobiology and oboe efficiency, has been awarded a high nationwide fellowship to proceed her research.

Noughani, of Madison, is the recipient of an $8,500 fellowship from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all tutorial disciplines. She is certainly one of 62 recipients nationwide this 12 months to obtain a Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship.

As a Phi Kappa Phi Fellow, Noughani will pursue a grasp’s diploma in oboe efficiency at Indiana College–Bloomington’s Jacobs College of Music. She has been chosen to be the affiliate teacher of oboe at Jacobs, a selective place awarded to just one graduate scholar in her studio.

At UW–Madison, Noughani was an honors scholar in neurobiology, pursuing the pre-med monitor. She was an undergraduate researcher within the Bendlin Lab on the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Illness Analysis Heart and obtained two analysis awards: the Sophomore Analysis Fellowship and the Hilldale Undergraduate Analysis Fellowship. She carried out with the UW–Madison Symphony Orchestra and was a part of The Magnolia Trio, a woodwind chamber group.

“Ever since fifth grade, I instructed my mother and father I’d be a neurosurgeon by day and an oboist by night time,” Noughani says. “I’m undoubtedly not near being a surgeon or a principal oboist, however I’m grateful to be on a path that encompasses each of my desires.”

Her detail-oriented thoughts finds training very satisfying, she says, whereas on a deeper degree, she believes music heals individuals.

“It creates a phenomenal neighborhood to seek out widespread floor with others,” she says.
