Antarctica is sort of absolutely lined in ice and doubles in floor space every winter as the encircling sea freezes. So it’s an particularly spectacular place for viewing icebergs, like these photographed by Jan Erik Waider. The ice is available in many shapes — some clearly fractured and a few sculpted by wind and water. The colours, too, are putting. Even in overcast situations, the blues of the ice appear virtually to glow from inside. (Picture credit score: J. Waider; by way of Colossal)
